Movie Maker crashes upon startup

I've been using MS Movie Maker 2 for a while now (~ 1yr) on my XP Pro SP2
box, and I recently downloaded a bunch of patches. Now I can't start up
movie maker. When I run it, it comes up and then dies with a popup asking if
I want to generate a report to Microsoft. Need desperate help w/ getting
this program working again.

I have exactly the same problem but this is the second time it has happened
to me, the last time I was able to repair it using the system restore feature
and taking my pc back a couple of months, that however did make some changes
to my system that took me a while to to discover and I'm not sure if my
machine removed important updates in order to "go back in time". I'm
reluctant to go down that path again so if someone knows why movie maker
opens then immediatley closes with the "windows movie maker has encountered a
problem and needs to close" message then I would love to know why it does
this. I'm picking that this is a very common problem.
Spank you very much.

This same thing has just started happening to me within the last few days. I
have automatic updates.
So I am hoping that someone has an answer to this problem, or can help me
reinstall Movie Maker to get it to work.
Thanks

Mine won't start up either. I get a Popup that says "Unspecified Error". I
have searched for a way to download it again but since its a part of
WindowsXP that came with SP2, i haven't found any way to do it.
Thx

Thanks very much! I did just install IE7 and I do have WinDVD so that is
most likely the problem. I will check out your links.
I had already downloaded Movie Maker from Downloads.com but that did not fix
the problem either.

Thanks again bigfoot, my problem is solved.
I also had a problem that someone mentioned in another thread whereas my HP
Director would not open, but I didn't realize that was connected also.
I removed IE 7 and now Movie Maker and all are working fine again.
Hopefully, they will fix the problem, I was liking the changes with IE 7.

Well I to have recently installed IE7 but the last time this problem occured
I did not have it. I kind of like IE7 and am confused about the connection
between IE7 and movie maker as Win DVD still goes ok, oh well I might as well
try returning to IE6 but I would have thought Redmond would have fixed any
probs as IE7 is in RC1 (or is it still in Beta?)
