Movie Maker compatibility

I need to buy a new camcorder and hope to get one that is the most compatible
with current and next Movie Maker versions. (My old Sony Handycam allowed me
to import directly into MM, but it was stolen.) Sony, Canon websites suggest
that I will have to use their proprietary software. Is this really true?

Thanks, this is helpful info as my stolen Handycam WAS mini-DV tape + hard
drive, I just never used the tape. Sorry for the dumb question, but what's
firewire?

Sony camcorder manuals refer to it as 'iLink'... others call it firewire or
IEEE394.

See my website's Setup Movie Maker > Hardware page for a couple pictures

SNIP IEEE 1394. Darn, it PapaJohn, you missed a 1. What's that, your
first mistake in 3 years? ;-)

I make lots of mistakes, but in most places I can catch and correct them
before someone else notices.

Thanks

Thanks

All I can say is to keep up the good work, mistakes or not!

Thanks to both you and PapaJohn -- your replies were helpful and I can take
it from here. -- Susan
