My XP came with a sample file. The file is Windows Movie
Maker Sample, 361KB, 8/29/2002. It is a Windows Media
Audio/Video file.

I own a Dell and need to know the best camera to use to
record movies that the movie maker software will play. I
don't want to spend a ton of money, but I want clarity of
picture and sound. I also don't want huge files, since I
plan to email them.

I also need to know if the movie maker is downloadable so
that people with 98, etc., can access the movies.

Thanks.

Hi Gail,

I don't know why you mention the sample file, but that one came with version
1 of Movie Maker, not the latest version 2.

The decision about how much to spend on a camera or camcorder is a very
personal one. If you want to shoot video in digital format, a good option
today is a mini-digital camcorder, with a firewire card and cable to
transfer the video to the computer. You could go with a less expensive
analog camera, but the cost of the transfer hardware would be more, and you
might run into more complexities setting it up.

See the Camcorders section of www.papajohn.org for comments from users of
Movie Maker about specific brands and models.

People running Windows 98 won't need to have Movie Maker. They will be able
to play your movie files using the Windows Medial Player.
