Maybe the following article will offer some ideas:

That Occur When You Write Data to a CD-R
or CD-RW Optical Disc in Windows XP

You apparently have the Media Center edition
of Windows XP. It has been reported that
the DVD creation option in Windows Movie
Maker is unreliable and it may be a good idea
to use other software.

i am running windows xp. It says dvd rom and compact disc rewritable but the
computer came with power2go software to burn dvd's. Also on the movie maker
it says that you can transfer your home movies to disc. If i can not burn to
dvd is there a way to burn on cd so that i can watch it on my dvd player?

You need 3rd party burning softweare to make your dvds. XP or movie maker
will not do it yet.

I don't know power2go but a quick google search brough this up. Save your
movie maker video as a dv-avi

then import it into power2go and follow this
