If you installed something like DVD playing software recently and if that
software is not the latest release then that would explain your problrm.
There are small program fragments called codecs. These are used by a lot of
video programs, but unfortunately and because Movie Maker does not have any
backwards compatible code, Movie Maker will turn its toes up if one of
these codecs is used.
I have written a program for Win XP that will allow you to rename the
"known" problem codecs so that you can use movie maker. Afterwards and
whether my program helped or not, you must again run it so that the codecs
can be restored. The program is called..."Rename Codecs" and is available
from my website.
