I never heard of Movie Maker 5.

Movie Maker 2.0 and 2.1 are for Windows XP
and are included in the operating system.

Movie Maker 2.6 and 6.0 are for Vista.

Wasn't the version 5.x what was included in XP MCE? It would "burn" DVDs
IIRC.

No...still Movie Maker 2.1...the DVD Burning was
accomplished with a Sonic DVD burning utility.

FWIW...WinXP MCE Movie Maker 2.1 does include
a set of 14 Pan/Zoom Effects not included in other
WinXP versions.

Monty Halls (Senior) I am having difficulty in downloading moving video from
supported file types (.avi,.wmv, etc) into the time line in MS Movie Maker
2.x. I am not technical and would appreciate a descriptive 'step by step' in
non-technical terms if anyone can please help to resolve this problem. Thanks

Do you have the timeline selected?

I guess you tried drag and drop into the Video track?

No...they are not supported file types.
Have a look at the following articles:

Your QuickTime files and Real Player files must
be converted to a compatible format before you
can import them into Movie Maker.

I have tried converting the file types to .avi, .wmv or .asf (those listed
as compatible with MSWMM). Even with any of these file-type conversions, the
clips will still not download to MS Windows Movie Maker or MS Powerpoint. I
think that I am going to have to abandon the effort and use Quicktime or
Realplayer as a poor substitute (you cannot include titles or credits). I am
very disappointed that, even with an extended effort, the problem seems to be
without a solution. Thanks for your efforts anyway, Sadly, I am running out
of time in the preparation of the presentations.

How did you convert he files?

What happens when you try to import
the converted files into Movie Maker?

Do you receive an error?

Most files are already in .wmv or .avi format. On attempting to 'import into
collections', I invariably receive an error message reading, " c:\Documents
and Settings\Mr Halls\My Documents\My
videos\skiholFeb08videos\skihol\family.wmv could not be imported. Unspecified
error." - - - or something very similar

I'm guessing you are running Windows XP?

If you have Windows Media Player 11 installed...
it may be worth a try to uninstall it.

The following link is the result of a
Google Groups search for Unspecified
Error, maybe it will be useful;

Be sure it's Windows Media Player 11...
to verify the version ...open Windows Media
Player and go to...Help / About.

And...I have seen at least one report that
removing the following update was the fix.

(929399) FIX: Subscription services cannot
extract metering data when the services try to
synchronize metering data on a client computer
that is running the Windows Media Format 11 SDK
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929399/en-us

You'll find it in Add-Remove Programs under:
Windows XP - Software Updates
Hotfix for Windows Media Format 11 SDK (KB929399)

I created a movie maker on a computer running Vista and can't open it on a
computer running XP. Any suggestions?
