Movie maker 2 crashes on launch / Qedit.dll involved

MM2 has been working fine on two computers for 3 years. But now when
launching MM2 I get an immediate error message
"Windows Movie Maker a rencontré un problème et doit fermer..." (WMM got a
problem and must close...)
The error report associated whith the message states :
AppName: moviemk.exe AppVer: 2.1.4026.0 ModName: qedit.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.5512 Offset: 0001a8e0

While I don't click the send/dont send error report, I can still use the
main MM2 window Tools/Options/Compatibilty to enable/disable filters but
cannot import video. When I click any of these buttons MM2 ends.
No combination of enabling/disabling filters for compatibility made MM2
work.

I currently have Windows XP/SP3, IE7 on two systems, each giving the same
problem (P4 and Athlon based, 1GB RAM)
Seems that it began some time after upgrading to SP3.
Microsoft update is automatic on each system, thus I cannot be sure of all
updates

Does anybody got the same problem (and a solution ?)

I don't know if it will solve your issue but there
is some info on qedit.dll in the following article:

Movie Maker 2 Software Modules
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Modules.html
(just scroll down to QEDIT.DLL)

Solutions that work for
me may not work for you

Proceed at your own risk

As many bugs seem to deal with Intervideo I tried to uninstall Intervideo
Home theater (which was bundled with one of my PCs and rarely works well - I
use freeware Pouchin for TV and VLC for viewing video stuff).
Computer magic worked deleting many ivi*.* modules and MM2 now works... I
cannot imagine why because Home theater was here from the beginning while
MM2 was working.

Thanks a lot
