I used MM2 on my older Toshiba laptop. It worked fine. I just purchased a Toshiba P25-S670 with Microsoft XP Media Center Edition, and can no longer use this program...it aborts.
I have followed the link provided by Microsoft to Ligos Corp and delete the files lmpgspl.ax and lmpgvd.ax (I only found 2 of the 5 they listed), I used John Kelly's Rename program and get an i/o error 183, I have disabled 'write combining' on my Nvidia GeForce FX5700 Display, and I have reset my Performance settings to Adjust for best performance. It still aborts.....now what do I do. I would really like to be able to use MM2....Please help!

Hello there,

Error 183 !!!! Was movie maker running when you ran the Rename Codecs program,
or some other program that might have been using one of the codecs, or, are you
logged on with something other than administrator privileges? from memory 183
means that the system stopped you performing the task for reason like the file
does not exist (that can not happen), the file is locked by the system, or, you
do not have permission to rename the file.

Are you using version 1.5 of Rename Codecs. If not I suggest you download it
and try again at renaming the problem codecs using the Auto Rename option.

If you have tinkered with the registry, or, if you have tried deleting or
renaming the codecs by hand, that is using the Registration Utility or RegEdit,
you may have corrupted one or more entries. If you look towards the bottom of
my standard message on this (See below my sig for the message) you may well
have done irreparable dammage to the system setup. Irrepairable because you
would need to know character by character what you did type so that it can be
undone (maybe)

Hello there,

Ah Ha !!!! MPG Video.....Perhaps I never said to you, MPeg files are not very
good with Movie Maker. You need to convert it to an AVI file. If you go to my
web site and click on GREAT LINBKS > IMAGING > KNOWLEDGE BASE > VIDEO HELP you
will find perhaps the best resource on converting you are ever likely too. You
need an MPEG to AVI Converter, so simply select that in the drop down box (Mid
page I think) and you will be given the info you need.

Error 183 IS an access error related to the failure to open a file. Open in
this context simply means connect ready to do a transaction. Re-installing your
system has removed whatever it was that was causing that problem

Anyway, Good Luck !!

John,

Right you are! I just captured a film from my camcorder and it was imported as DV-AVI. It worked perfectly.....Thank you for your assistance...
My answer from Toshiba was...That this was beyond their expertise.

Keep up the good work. You are helping a lot of folks.
