Movie Maker 2.1 Dark Red Video

Movie Maker works fine until I save my project. Once saved as a video, it
doesn't matter what format, the video is dark and very red, almost as if it
had been made on Mars. No other video use does this, i.e., all games and
other videos look fine. Projects viewed in MM look fine. How can this be
fixed?

I'm guessing you are saving your movie
in the .wmv or .avi format and viewing it
with Windows Media Player?

What are the formats of your source files?

Many formats are reportedly compatible
with Movie Maker but the most reliable
choices are:

Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv-avi
Music - wmv, wma, wav

And...in Movie Maker...if you go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...and uncheck all
the filters it may make a difference.

I have saved my projects in every format available - high quality, low
quality, high quality for broadband, low quality for broadband, high quality
for local playback, low quality for local playback, high quality for etching
in stone tablets, etc. All provide the same results.

My source files are avi video (from Fraps), MP3, wma, and wav (for music).
Yesterday was the first time I tried still photos, using both jpg and bmp
images, and I still get the same results.

I have tried viewing in Win Media Player, Real Player, Irfanview, and VLC
Media Player. While preview images (usually the first frame) and projects
viewed in Movie Maker look fine, the final video product still looks like it
was shot in the evening on Mars. White lettering shows up pink, etc.

I will try the filters idea. Thank you.

Actually...some .avi files and .mp3
files cause issues in Movie Maker.

I made a movie with just plain jpg and bmp image files, filters all unchecked
(they were previously checked), and it's still giving me the same problem. I
used a plain white title screen in the project, but after saving as a movie,
the white title screen looks pink. Some of the images are so dark you can't
tell what they are.

Unusual issue...at this point all I can offer is a
guess...if you find the actual fix...please share it
with this newsgroup.

You may have an issue with your video driver...if
you reduce the Graphics Hardware Acceleration as
per the instructions in the following article...you may
see an improvement. If...yes...you need to update
your video driver. (improvement or not...be sure to
return the acceleration to full after the experiment)

How to change the graphics hardware acceleration
setting in Windows

(scroll down to: 'On a computer that is running Windows XP')

Here's an nVidia Win XP driver for the GeForce 7800 GS
that was released October 5, 2009 - Version : 191.07
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_191.07_whql.html
FWIW...(if yoiu have a laptop...it's best to get your
drivers from the computer manufacturer's support site)

Good luck.....

Thank you, John. I will try this out. I have read of 2-3 other people on
the web having this issue, but no one ever got this close to a solution.
