Movie Dispaly for Powerpoint

I use Windows 98 and Powerpoint 2000 - I get this
message: "cannot display this type of sound or movie" -
even though Windows Media plays the "avi" file fine.
I purchased "templates" that have "avi" files built into
them... but I get this message in trying to use them. Any
suggestions??
