Hi everyone, i need some help. I'm not very PC literate so please keep any
advice non-technical please!!

Proplem : Everytime i try to open movie maker i get the error message
"Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem & needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." It then asks me to send an error report, which i have
done on many occasions.

I've also tried to remove it from my system & re-install it, but it wont let
me do this without removing & re-installing SP2, which i dont want to do
unless i really have to.

Anyone with any ideas on what might help me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & merry Christmas

Hi John

I have the same problem. I can not get Movie maker to work at all. Get the
same message. And I can not find out where to delete the old movie maker and
where I can download a new version. To me it seem as movie maker is a part of
servicepack2 and that I can not get it by it self.
Did you find a solution.

Did you try uninstalling IE7? Did you read
the article about Crashes and Hangs?

Anyway...here are two methods of
reinstalling Movie Maker...

1) The following steps previously offered by
Carlos, MCSE are supposed to reinstall
MM2.1. (you'll need your Windows XP Disk)

1. Go to C:\Windows\inf
2. Right click on Moviemk.inf and click on Install
3. When it asks for your Windows XP cd put
it in and browse to the I386 folder. Click OK

2) Reinstalling WinXP SP2 will reinstall Movie
Maker 2.1. You can download SP2 from the
following site:

Download Windows XP SP2
http://tinyurl.com/6ubys

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

John,

Thanks mate, i took your advice & removed IE7. Movie Maker is now working
perfectly.

The only down side is my Mrs now wants me to put all the video we have onto
the system & then onto DVD.

Thanks again for the help & have a great New Year.
