I used the easy transfer cable and was happy when I could see all 400 or so
contacts made the trip, as they're visible when I look at "Contacts".
However, I can't see them in the "to" or "cc" lists. They appear in a folder
"Contacts" within Outlook. I've tried to enable the checkbox to include
them, but it's grayed out. Your assistance is much appreciated!!!

You need to use the Mail applet in Control Panel to create a new mail
profile and connect your existing PST to that profile. Using Windows Easy
Transfer creates a damaged mail profile that cannot have the Outlook Address
Book service repaired. A new profile is needed.

That did the trick!
Many thanks!

Hi. I have the same problem as Paul. I followed the solution and created a
new profile using 'Mail' in control panel, but I am unsure what to do next.
Sorry if I seem slow, but could you please explain how I link the existing
'PST' file to the new profile. Thanks.

Just open your previous file in the new profile:
File > Open > Outlook Data File...
At that point you can simply choose:
1. To set it as your default and then close the new file after you restart
Outlook
2. Copy what you want from the old file to the new.

I am not an MVP, doctor, nor genius so I may not be using the proper
terminology but I would appreciate it if someone could try to help me anyway.

I am using Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2007 (12.0.6300.5000) SP1 MSO
(12.0.6213.1000), part of Microsoft Office Professional 2007. My OS Name is
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate, Version 6.0.6001, Service Pack 1, Build
6001, 32-bit Operating System. I have Installed Physical Memory (RAM) of 4.00
GB on a computer using Intel® Core ™ Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66 GHz. The Disk drive
has 305244 MB capacity with approximately 152 GB Free space. I am on a home
workgroup with other computers that share access to the internet through a
gateway. I am not sure whether my .pst file was created during transfer of
data from my old computer using Windows Easy Transfer or if I copied to the
folder from a backup. I can see all of my contacts in the different OL
folders. I just can’t get it to find a name in a folder other than contacts
when I create an e-mail unless I select that folder directly.

I don’t think that Microsoft® Help and Support Article 287563 applies to my
situation because when I follow the instructions in step 1 there is an
Outlook Address Book listed. Additionally, when I select the Contacts button
in the Navigation Pane of Outlook® 2007 and then follow the instructions in
step 2, the folder already has a check in the Show this folder as an e-mail
address book check box. Also the instruction in the More Information appears
to be incorrect as the steps described do not work for me.

I plan to try the steps shown here, but my question is …

Can I delete the old profile after I create a new one and if so, what steps
do I take to make sure I do it correctly?

When you say you "cannot get it to find a name in a folder other than
Contacts..." to what search method are you referring? Do each of your other
Contact Folders appear as they should in the Outlook Address Book view?
