Move work from one account (Admin) to another (Limited)

Hi everyone

I've started to use XPP SP2 recently and have one account ("Admin") with
Administrator rights (in addition to the built in Administrator Account),
along with a "Day to Day" account with Limited rights. I've used Admin to
install everything and set things as I want but have also done some work
(Word, Excel, VBS, Outlook Contacts etc.), surfed, created favorites etc.
using this account.

I have learned that this isn't good practice (from the comments here and
elsewhere) so need to transfer this work to Day to Day. Is it as simple as
deleting Day to Day, creating Admin2 with Administrator rights, changing
Admin to Limited rights and renaming it "Day to Day"? I'd then rename Admin2
as Admin.

Is this logical or would it damage any of the work done so far in any way?

Many thanks in the hope that this process is simple.

First things first: The idea of doing your day to day computing in an
account that does not have Administrator status is sound. That way, if your
day to day account becomes compromised, whether by a virus, spyware or some
other type of malware, at least the intruder won't have free reign over your
computer. You should use your Administrator account only when you are
performing a task, like installing software or doing system maintenance,
that requires full control over the computer.

You don't say whether you have XP Home or XP Pro; the procedures and
limitations are quite different for each. From the Subject line of your post
I would guess you have XP Home, but you'll need to confirm that. And no,
it's not as simple as you have it. But neither is it rocket science.

Hi Ted

Thank you for the comments. It's reassuring to know that my interpretation
of the comments that I've seen about day to day vs occasional computing
activity are correct.

Sorry that I wasn't explicit about my Operating System - I mentioned XPP SP2
and realise this could have looked like a mistake in pressing the <P> twice!
I have XP Pro, rather than XP Home. Pity what I want/need to do isn't as
simple as I had hoped but, with guidance, I'm sure that I can do what's
necessary.

Thank you for your input

I have limited experience with XP Pro, so hopefully someone else can give
you detailed instructions (or show you how to find them elsewhere.)

XP Pro has more types of user account than the Home version, and more
flexibility in configuring those groups.

Thank you Ted - I hope that someone can give me guidance for the process with
XP Pro. I really do not like using an Admin account regularly now that I
know the risks - even though I'm fully AV'd and firewalled!
