Why wouldn't it have occurred to you? I specifically
asked you which of those four files I should copy to the
new PC. Check out the message thread from 4:16 PM if you
are curious.

It never even occurred to me that you hadn't even tried
the files you found.

While waiting for your response, and desparate, decided
to try the files I previously asked you about in my
4:16PM post. They worked. 13 hours of searching MS,
waiting on hold for tech support and posting here.
Seems
like things could be made clearer somehow.

Impossible.
Keep looking.
Just R click your root folder and examine its
properties
to see the name and
location of your PST file.

Russ,
I have a "microsoft mail server POP/SMTP (default)"
defined in outlook (no physical hardware). Is this
what
you define below as "irrelevant?" and if so, I still
don't understand how I get my previous inbox/e-
mails on
my old PC transferred to my new PC. Those files no
longer exist with my dsl comcast.
Help!
-----Original Message-----
The only way you would not have a PST file is if
you
are
running against
Exchange Server, in which case your question would
be
irrelevant.

Thanks for responding...I had actually found the
article
you spoke of in an earlier post and have found
my "hidden
files," but none are the .pst file. The 4 files
I
have
are:
archive Office Data File
extend DAT File
Outlook Office Data File
Personal Folders(1) Office Data File
Which one(s) do I copy to the new PC?
Thanking you in advance for your help!!
-----Original Message-----
Enable the search and display of hidden folders
so
you
can find your PST. No
one has used a PAB for years. Are you certain
you
were?
The file you need to back up is your Personal
Folders
file (*.pst) It's
where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are
stored.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook
data

After growing impatient waiting on hold
w/Microsoft
for
20 minutes, I am trying a post instead.
PROBLEM:
Exchanging computer due to scratched screen,
need to
move
all existing Outlook data to new computer.
Can
someone
tell me the simplest way to do this...or the
names
of
the
files that need to be copied. I did try
finding
the
files that are *.pst and *.pab with no luck.
Outlook
says they are located at c:\documents and
settings\Sally\local settings\application
data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst BUT I
cannot
locate
anything beyond the "Sally." I'm sure this
has
been
answered a gazillon times but I cannot find it
posted.
Please have mercy and answer again. Thanks!
