I'm moving Outlook 2000 to a new computer with XP from and old one with Me.

As the directory structures are different, I'm confused!

Also, before any moving of data I started Outlook on the new machine and it
told me I had to reinstall Outlook. I exited, did some other stuff, and
restarted Outlook WITHOUT REINSTALLING and it appears to be working now?!
Except for lack of my personal data like email address book, old messages,
calendar, etc. Am I being fooled into not reinstalling even though I should?

Thanks for any help!

On Windows ME, I believe Outlook kept its data in C:\Windows\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook and C:\Windows\Local Settings\Applicaton
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. WIth Windows XP, it's in C:\Documents and
Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and C:\Documents and
Settings\user\Local Settings\Applicaton Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

It's had to say after the fact, but perhaps the initial start created enough
of Outlook's data files that the second start had everything it needed.

Search your hard drive for any files ending in .pst, making sure you include
searching in hidden files and folders. All Outlook data like messages,
calendar items, contacts, etc. are kept in a single file whose extension is
".pst".
