I've been trying to move the index file or folder and delete the old one on C
to save space. I can't seem to do either.

"the index file", what pray tell is that???
How about giving a bit more info.

Well, let's see. The index file for Windows Basics is the file or folder
maybe created when indexing windows. As in windows desktop search, et al.

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message.

Windows Basic? Are you using Vista perhaps? If so that's down the hall on
the right. This is an XP group.

Windows Search is the latest version of the desktop search engine from
"Microsoft".
It is part of XP

Load the Indexing Service Snap-in in the Microsoft Management Console
and have a look at the options there. You want to delete the existing
catalog and then create a a new one.

To start the Microsoft Management Console enter MMC in the Start Menu
Run box. In the Console menu select the Add/Remove Snap-in option and
"Add" the Indexing Service Snap-in to the Console Root. Please note
that by default the Indexing Service places the Indexing Catalog on the
drive with the most available free space.

1. The management console is not populated.
2. I found the indexing service under computer management.
3. I deleted the index, I think.
4. I restarted the service and placed the file in E:\Indexing
5. I appear to have folders inside this folder so I assume it's working.
6. I would like to be sure the folder on C is gone to save the space. What
file/folder do I look for? I found files on E and used the search engine to
locate all with the extension, but the search comes up with none, not even on
E.

I found the wci file where I wanted it, but ironically Windows Search
couldn't find it. I looked everywhere to allow hidden or system files to show
up.
