I've been on an A7V8X for a year and the pricing of the new AMD64 is
getting within my range. It looks like I need a much beefier
powersupply as the Athlon FX is 1.5V @ 58A, present supply is a PCP&C
Silencer 400 ATX, which delivers 5V up to 30A (I'm not sure what
expectations the onboard power conversion has to run this mother.) I
haven't been able to divine anything from ASUS or AMD on recommended
powersupplies, either.

Does a fresh install of WinXP need to be done or should it just work
with a few updates? Anyone whom has made this move I'd appreciate
hearing from.

If you change motherboards you need to reformat your harddrive and do a
fresh install of XP or you'll be experiencing ongoing Registry faults.

The most important rating is the Amps on the +12 rail.
What does it say? The 400W PCP model should be
powerful enough for your system.

Sometimes doing a repair install will allow you to
reconfigure XP without having to re-install from scratch.
We are a dealer and have had good success with the
following method:

Changing Motherboards With Windows /XP
--------------------------------------------

XP has problems when changing motherboards.
What you have to do is: Boot from the XP CD, skip past the screen that asks
if you want to
'repair using recovery console.' The next screen or perhaps the one
following should ask
whether you want to do a 'repair install' or a 'clean install.' Choose
'repair.' It may ask for the
product 'key,' the 25 alpha-numeric characters you entered with your first
install.
