I haven't tried this but what happens if you select the folder you want all
files to end up in, search for *.* including all subfolders, then selct all
from the found window and drag to the folder - maybe this will move all the
files for you in one go and you can now easily delete all the empty sub
folders.

XP favors folder view (single pane) over explorer view (two pane) and this
is one task that can be easier with both panes exposed. With your explorer
window open, click on the Folder button in the toolbar. If you do not have
one, click View> Explorer Bar> Folders. With this view, you'll have two
panes.

Use the panel on the left to drill down to the folder/subfolder structure
that you're going to work with. Get the files exposed that you want to copy
in the right pane. Right click in the right pane and choose Select All.
Move your cursor over to the "one-level-up" folder in the right pane (or
any folder that you want to copy to) then right click on it and select
Paste.

There is a Move To button that can be added to the standard toolbar that's
handy for this task too. It can be added by right clicking on the toolbar
and selecting Customize. Find the Move To item, click on it to select it.
Then click the Add button. To use: Select any item or group of items. Then
click Move To. A dialog window opens where you can select the target
destination for those selected items.

what you could do is search for all files in all sub directorys (by
putting * as search critier) once it’s finsihed, selecte all files,
cut them, and paste them where ever you want them.
