Hi Carole,
Is your mouse connected to a switch box? If so then there are some known
issues with that. See:

239679 - IntelliMouse: Erratic Mouse Behavior When Switching Between
Computers (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=239679).

You can also try the Input Device Troubleshooter in the Help and Support
Center (Start -> Help and Support). Just search for 'Mouse Troubleshooter'
and you should see the Input Device Troubleshooter.
