I have and HP Pavilon 533 and recently had CD ROM
problems. I fixed that problem, then my mouse quit
working. Thinking it's a registry problem. Help - anyone
know a fix around this one. I have rebooted and unplugged
the mouse and replugged with no luck. I am currently
using an older cpu to search for a fix. Thank yu

Hi, JMurray.

You haven't given us much to work with. About all we can do is ask if you
have the current WinXP drivers for your mouse.

Is this the mouse that came with your Pavilion 533? Have you changed the
drivers at any time? You say the mouse "works on other CPUs"; do those
computer run WinXP, or Win9x/ME? Drivers for Win9x/ME almost certainly will
not work with WinXP.

If you mention the make and model of your mouse, someone here might be able
to suggest something.

The mouse came with the computer - an HP mouse. I
realized also my keyboard isn't working either. I didn't
change any drivers, only tried to update the CD Rom driver
when it wasn't working. I didn't get a CD with drivers
with the CPU. The other CPU I was using is Windows 95,
very old and slow and the mouse worked on that CPU.

Hi, Jamie.

As I said earlier,

The ground rule is that Microsoft writes Windows; hardware vendors produce
the drivers that make their products work with Windows. So, the ball is
clearly in HP's court. Go to their website for advice - and for drivers
that let your mouse work with WinXP. www.hp.com - and navigate from there.

Other sources MAY have the drivers you need, but HP is the party responsible
for producing such drivers.

I've waited a couple of days before this reply, hoping someone familiar with
your hardware would chime in with a tip. Since I've never owned an HP, I'll
let someone else advise you further. Good luck!
