Hi,
We have a KVM Switch connected to several highly important servers. One of
the ps2 mouse leads became unplug and thus the server connected to it has
lost control of the mouse. Is there a way to refresh the mouse driver so
that it sees that the mouse is plug in again with out having to reboot the
server. We are in the middle of a large amount of highly important and time
consuming work and can not afford the down time that would be caused if we
have to reboot the server. We can use the server at the moment in a limited
way as everything else is working. I would be nice to at least be able to
use the mouse again until the next shut down can be done (maybe 1-2 months
time) as some of the software is very difficult to use without a mouse.

Thanks for any help.

That depends on what kind of mouse you have. Usually for a USB or serial
mouse, Windows will simply reload the driver already loaded, and the mouse
will begin to work again. For PS2 and BUS mice, Windows may need (or think
it needs) to make resource allocations for the hardware (port) to start
using the mouse. So, usually a PS2 mouse requires a reboot when detected.

If you really need to use a mouse on this machine for a couple of months,
you may be in luck. If you are running 2000 Server, you can use Terminal
Services on the server and Remote Desktop on a client machine to use the
server (almost) as if you are sitting at the console. It's only for
light-duty work, but if it can get you by for several weeks, some use is
better than none.
