Mouse Wheel problem

I am running WindowsXP Home Edition with service pack 2 installed. I
have installed my old optical mouse, a MS USB Intellimouse Explorer to
the system. I have Intellipoint version 4 installed. I have been
having problems with setting the wheel switch to double click. I set
it up and everything works but occasionally it stops working. All
other switches on the mouse continue to work fine. If I reboot the
double click operation comes back. Sort of seems like it tends to
forget? Any ideas what is the problem? I am very new to windowsxp.

Try the latest driver package...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...63-2f8a-4339-9542-18f90b69128d&displaylang=en

It has settings for many MS mice.
 
Thanks for response. Clicked on your link and it does not open says
can not find microsoft.com. Could this be because I use Netscape?
When I go to microsoft direct and lay down to get the recommended
software for IntelliMouse Explorer it directs me to Intellipoint
version 4.12 NOT the latest version 5.X. I had tried the latest
version and had problem and the 4.12 does sort of work.
