mouse unstable

I have a P4 3Gig computer with an ASUS motherboard, a
Nvidia 5600 graphics card, 1 gig ram, and DirectX 9b
I have no problem playing MOHAA or UT but when I try to
play Far Cry or Hitman, I run into the same problem. The
mouse pointer is difficult to control. I have tried both
a wireless and wired mice, I have tried all the control
adjustments, the motherboard and card have all the latest
drivers, but still no improvement. Any suggestions?

Does it feel like there is acceleration on the mouse?
