My mouse is behaving very strangely, as in the pointer shows on the
screen, but will not function at all. I have looked in the Device
Manager which says there are no conflicts and also that the mouse is
working properly.
I uninstalled the driver, rebooted, the mouse was found and drivers
reinstalled but still the same issue.
Thinking it mght be that the mouse itself was to blame I took one from
another box of mine and guess what...yep same thing.
I have been trying to sort this out for nearly a week now so any advice
would be really welcome!!
TIA.

Could be the PS2 mouse port on your motherboard went belly up.
Try a USB or serial mouse.

BTW in case you didn't know, you should NEVER connect a
mouse or keyboard unless the computer is completely powered
off. This rule doesn't apply to USB devices.

hii if ur mouse is a ball mouse it requires occasional cleaning as dust
accumulates across the rollers inside the mouse its very simple to clean
shutdown the system reverse your mouse there u will find instructions on how
to open ur mouse open it remove the ball out carefully place it at a soft
loacation u shd be able to see the dust accumulated now take a cotton bud
and gently remove it there ur problems solved!.
