Mouse stops working after unplugging it and plugging it back in

I have had issues in the past where if I unplugged a mouse from a server and plugged it back in the server the mouse would no longer work. The only fix was to reboot. I am replacing all of our KVM equiptment and would prefer that did not have to restart every server. Any one know a work around or away get the server to recongize the mouse again. Thanks in advanced.

I would disable the mouse if I could, but I don't see how I can. It's a PS/2 mouse. It looks like my only option is to uninstall it. I can't seem to find where I could disable it. Any suggestions on disabling or other options

How about Disable it before removal and then "Undisable" after making
the switch

Unplugging/plugging PS/2 ports is not recommended while your PC is powered up. You risk damaging or destroying your PS/2 port connection.

PS/2 devices are not Plug and Play and should not be unplugged with
the machine switched on. Whats more, you can permanently damage the
port by doing so.

My bad, yes, uninstall in the only option available. I think I would
give it a try once(uninstall) to see if that is a viable option in your
situation. Normally PS/2 devices are not recommended for "hot" plugging,
so you are taking a hardware risk there.

.
Use a KVM that emulates a mouse and keyboard on all
connected servers etc, no matter with one you are viewing.
All connected devices think that a mouse & keyboard are
connected all the time.

I'm not surprised. I'm surprised you haven't had hardware damage form doing
this-- it's risky. Why not buy enough mice that you never have to do this?
Mice are _cheap_ - probably cheaper than the KVM route suggested by Cdatar,
but you will no doubt do the necessary pricing research.
