Mouse STILL drifts left

I've googled everywhere and can't seem to find a solution to this problem.

My Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 drifts left and up. I'm running Win XP Pro
SP2, have the latest microsoft drivers for the "USB wireless mouse
intellipoint" dated 11/7/06 (and have removed and re-installed them).

The mouse is on a wood desktop.

I've tried reducing the sensitivity of the mouse using the intellipoint
software. No luck.

Age of Empires is totally unplayable as the screen drifts uncontrollably.

Any suggestions?

Is this perhaps on a laptop that has a mousepad device? They can conflict -
I've seen the effect you describe in an old (700Mhz p3) Dell Inspiron. Try
disabling the mousepad, or updating the drivers, or removing the drivers.

This is a desktop.

If the screen is drifting then you have your monitor (LCD panel?) set
for say 1280x1024 when it natively, in full screen mode, is 1024x768.

I do have an LCD, a Samsung SyncMaster 204B running in 1600 x 1200. I
checked the manual and that is the recommended setting.

One of my favorite games (age of empires) has a maximum resolution of 1280 x
1024. So I tried changing the screen resolution to this. No change, mouse
still drifts up and to the left. The game is unplayable.

Have you tried a different mouse? I had a similar problem with a garden
variety optical ps/2 mouse. Replacing the rodent fixed it.

Unfortunately, yes. I swapped out my Microsoft wireless lasermouse 6000 for
a Microsoft Intellimouse, which is a USB wired optical mouse. No change.
Same drift.

I've re-installed the mouse software, but without any fix to my drift left
problem. I even tried re-installing AOE Conquerors Expansion program, but
the game is still unplayable.
