Mouse Right Click Problems

I have a PS/2 mouse on a PC running XP Home. For much of the time, I have
problems using the mouse right click. The symptoms include the clicked item
merely flashing, or a menu appearing briefly then closing before I can choose
an item. The problem occurs with MS software (IE, Excel) and third-party
software.

Does anyone know how I can banish this aggravation? Thanks for your help.

What happens if you try a different mouse?

Sounds like a bad microswitch giving intermittent contact. It's giving
the same results as a fast double click. For one last check, make
sure your right button isn't assigned to a double click. If not, then
it's time for a new mouse.
