Hello,

I couldn;t find a solution to my problem, so, this is the last resort.

The symptoms are:

With IE7, I can't access www.windowsupdate.com.
I write the adress, press ok, it tries to go, but nothing happens. A
blank page.

If I go hep/about Internet explorer, the version information is empty.

These are two of symptoms of the problem.

The other symptom is that, to click on any link, or anything
clickable, I have to click, like 5 or 6 times.

That, it really annoys me.
I changed mouses, but, to me, it seems to be a registry problem, but I
don't know where to find, or how to fix it.
Xp Sp2, with the latest patches applied.

Can you go to the Control Panel/Programs Features and uninstalled IE7?? Don't
forget to click View Installed Updates.

Hello PaulM,

thanks for answering.

So, you mean to uninstall IE7 (and all its updates) ?

Ok, I will do it and tell you what happened.

Alfonso

Hello PaulM,

I've just uninstalled IE7, all went well with the process.

I have now, IE6, but the same problems/symptoms:

I have to click like 6 or 7 times in the buttons to be able to
actually "click" there.
That is the problem that really annoys me, because it makes my windows
feel "heavy"

It does not happend in every clickable button.

I mean: I went to version information of IE6 (About internet
Explorer), and
it does not show any version information. All is blank.

When I try to click on the OK button, I have to click many many times
(although, when I point with the arrow of the mouse, the button
inmediatly
becomes "blue", like it is ok.

If I, instead, click on any hiperlink, it works ok, the firs time.
Also, if I try other programs, like Excel, wich, dit not work (the
same problem,
it was very difficult to have access to any toolbar button), it works,
ok.

So, in brief, it is ALMOST ok, I thank you very much for your help.

I think it was something related to the registry, wich IE7
deinstallation repaired.

Do you have any thoughts about the cause of the problem ?

Thanks again,

Alfonso

I just run shellfix.bat and, IT RESTORED MY INTERNET EXPLORER VERSION
INFO !!

Wow !!, so, it was "just a matter" of an unregistered dll !!.

Thanks Pcbutts.!

I still miss the windowsupdate.com site .

I think - if anyone cares - that it was a matter of the mshtmled.dll
and browseui.dll libraries (long, long time ago, I had a similar
problem with 2000).
I also run svchost repair tool.

But, what happens is a bit strange : When I click ok on IE6,
www.windowsupdate.com , it passes that info to
Opera (I also use Opera), and is a new window, in Opera, that tries to
go to that site.

Like PaulM said, it's a bigger problem, and I think it is related to
some registry corruption, only that I don't need how to fix it without
destroying the settings (and I think that most of the registry repair
tools only deal with missing files and inconsistencies like that.)

Nevertheless, thes two "little" batch files are now in my toolbox.

Thanks again.

p.d.
I thnk I am pretty sure I don't have any spyware-virus cause I
have AVG and I am rather precautious with this machine.

Hello PaulM and Pcbutts,

I followed both advices (making IE the default browser, and
downloading the .vbs file to fix windows update problem).

Unfortunately, the problem remains the same, that's to say: If I have
IE6 open and try to go to the
site www.windowsupdate.com, the time I click the Ok button, it passes
the request to a new windows in Opera,
who in turn, as it's not IE, gives me an error.

Thanks again to both of you

Alfonso

Is your default browser Opera? Make IE your default browser and try that.
Or you can uninstall Opera and give it a try.

I tried to install IE7, but to no avail.
I had installed Spybot S & D (with Teatimer running), and AVG 8.
I have redone de installation without those software running, but
I have the same problem, can't install and offers me to reboot.

Not having IE7 is not really a big problem to me, cause I don't use
it so often.

I think it may be a problem of registry rights, although I am running
as
administrator.

Thanks again
