First, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers that
are appropriate for your system. Then boot to safe mode and uninstall the
touchpad drivers. R-click on My Computer and select Manage, go to Device
Manager, select your touchpad, r-click that and select Uninstall.
Review your system to make sure that any 3rd party driver files are gone
(ie: search Program Files for Synaptic or whatever). Reboot to normal
windows.
Second, when windows detects the touchpad upon reboot, install the new
drivers, OR allow XP to install the default drivers, then go back to Device
manager (see above) and this r-click the touchpad and select Update driver
and navigate to the new driver file. Your touchpad software may be
self-installing so you can just run the installer instead.
