I have bought numerous Optical Microsoft Intellimouse but they all
seem to fail after a week or so. The light simplily goes out and it
stops working. You pull the mouse plug from out of the back of computer
and plug it back in and it's starts working for 5 mins or 10 mins until
the next time. Can someone tell me WTF is with that? I run XP 2.8 P4

A loose connection with a plug. simple fix. put a tie down around the cord near the plug. screw the tie down into the case to prevent cord movement.

Or possibly the card itself is loose. that's the problem with mine. poweroff, tighten all the cards, tighten all the screws, power back on.

Right click My Computer and click Properties. On the Hardware tab click
Device Manager. You want to click the + in front of Universal Serial Bus
and for each hub right click and choose Properties. Uncheck the option to
allow Windows to turn it off to save power. I would try experimenting so
that you only turn off the one for the mouse.
