Mouse problems - more of an annoyance than anything

I'm using a Logitech MX500 mouse. I have installed the software that
came on the CD. Whenever I turn on my computer and get to the Windows
XP login screen, the mouse isn't working (yet). I have to press tab to
get to the password field, then login, and once Windows loads the mouse
works just fine. It seems like the drivers for the mouse are only being
"run" as a part of the Logitech mouse systray application: which only
runs once I've logged into the computer at least once following a
reboot. This isn't a major problem, but it is a small annoyance.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

It is indeed strange behavior, but a few questions: Is this by any
chance a serial mouse? Is so, is the serial port it is on Com 1? If
not, you might change the port to Com 1 and try it. I recall seeing
(Not on XP) a case where the mouse would load but not function unless it
was using Com 1 on Windows 98.
If the above does not apply, try removing your modem from the computer
and deleting both the mouse and modem from the Device Manager. See if
the mouse will be detected and loaded properly without the modem
installed. If it does, install the modem and see if that does not solve
your problem.
