Mouse problems; figured this is a security breach

As of today, I have been having problems with one of my
computer's mouse. However, the problem isn't the mouse,
but Windows 2000 itself. Because other people use this
PC, the firewall was inexplicably disabled and therefore I
believe a trojan was downloaded and installed. After
doing a thorough virus scan, I did in fact discover and
eliminate several trojans. After rebooting the computer,
the mouse became stuck in the bottom right-hand corner of
the screen. After attempting to move it around, the
cursor just zips back to the same point everytime and will
not move. I believe that the trojan allowed someone to
get inside the OS and cause the mouse to get stuck.

With "several trojans" found you certainly could have some corruption of the
operating system with missing or incorrect files and missing/incorrect
registry entries. There is never a guarantee that a comprmised computer can
be restored to full functionality/reliability and secured. You could try to
run System File Checker as in sfc /scannow on your computer and after that
go into Device Manager and uninstall your mouse and reboot to see if it
helps. However I strongly recommend that you backup your data onto media,
including your user profile under documants and settings, and then reformat
your hard drive and reinstall everything being sure not to connect to the
internet until you have a firewall and not reinstall your salvaged data
until you have all critical updates installed and a virus protection program
with current definitions. Then scan your backup media before copying over
your data files. -- steve
