The mouse used on a computer has been working fine for the last 3 years and when i try the mouse on another pc it works fine, but it seems you can only use the mouse on the older pc for 5mins and then it seems to stop workin. I have tried on another pc and it works, so it cant be the mouse, what else could be causing this? The only thing i could think of was the connection but it is securely connected.

Any ideas at all?

Thanks

What mouse we talking about ... USB? ... what PC? ... mice are cheap enough. ;)

I don't like being caught out, so I have a collection of ALL types. :D

Its a PS/2 mouse. The pc it doesnt really work well on is a intel celeron 1.3ghz, 128mb ram, 20gb etc. The mouse seems to work now and then on the pc, it seems to stop working and then working again, not sure why this is?

ah, now then ... could be a simple case of a "slow" system especially if you have XP on that 'thing'. :p

Had that happen a lot on my old 'workshop' AMD 600 PC until I added a little more RAM. :thumb:

But can you try a USB mouse? :)

128mb ram

Yep. Its only used for internet and word processing. I would like to put an extra 256 in but for £30 + a new case, thats over £50, which i think may be abit too much to spend on a computer with the spec it has.

Would you do that or spend £200 on a new computer?

Yep, has xp pro on it lol. Probaly a crazy thing to do with only 128MB ram :)
hahaha ... ok, it is just the poor CPU having problems doing ALL you ask ... don't forget, a CPU can only do ONE task at a time, even just moving the mouse and a Celercon ain't the bast mover.

You really should have 512 min ... failing that, put WinME or 98 on it and it will be a lot quicker.

Would make a reasonable Linux box ... :D

I would buy a new PC ... :thumb:

But I would also keep that one for Linux. ;)

Yeah, that was what i was thinking. How much do you think i would have to spend on a pc which will only be used for word processing and internet browsing but has possibilities of future upgrades so i get value for money, i wouldnt need monitor, keyboard or mouse.

£400

Start a new thread on this question ... then you'll get more answers. :thumb:

Stewart ... you did say "but has possibilities of future upgrades so i get value for money" ... then keep the old one but not with XP

For £200 you ain't gonna get much upgradeability and be back to square one in a month

However, I did build the MJW PC on a budget and utilised some older kit. But the MB, CPU & RAM still came to £130 on-board everything ... and that was 754, not 939

If all you want is a "newer PC" then budget PCs are out there ... look at Dell ... but do have a close look. ;)
