Mouse problem - click on release

Some time in the past few weeks, my mouse behaviour in Windows XP changed.
The left button use to send a "click" to the system (say, when closing a
program window by clicking on the "X") when the mouse button was released.
Now it sends a "click" when the left mouse button is depressed.

How do I reset it to the previous behaviour?

That certainly is annoying. ;-(

Open Mouse Properties...
Start | run | Type: main.cpl | Click OK |
Buttons tab | UNCheck: Switch primary and secondary buttons |
Apply | OK

Switch primary and secondary buttons
[[Clear the check box if you are right-handed and the left mouse button is
the one you use most often. Select the check box if you are left-handed and
use the right mouse button most often. The picture at the right indicates
the selected primary mouse button.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Okay, the switch primary/secondary box was unchecked. I toggled it on,
applied, toggle it off, applied and my problem was fixed BUT later todaty
the problem re-appeared (and I didn't even reboot). Why isn't the fix
lasting?
