mouse pointer

I installed XP Pro on a PC, but mouse pointer turns to a
black square (looks like a bar code), when I place it over
any window to type in. Help me to get rid of it?
 
Go to Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Display (tab).
Under "Cursor Options", move the "Width" slider all the way
to the left (narrow) and click APPLY.

that cursor is called "i-beam"

follow this path to change
-control panel (non-category view)
-mouse properties
-pointer options
-[x] Hide pointer while typing
make desired changes
press apply/ok to exit
 
to change this 'I' cursor goto mouse properties window
and pointers tab and change "text select" cursor to
something different.

Change the cursor themes.
