At a regular interval, the mouse focus is directed to the Start button. Can
I turn off this feature?

Try this.

Open Mouse Properties...
Start | Run | Type: main.cpl | Click OK |
Pointer Options tab | UNCheck: Automatically move pointer to the default
button in a dialog box | Click Apply | Click OK

Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box
[[Specifies whether the mouse pointer snaps to the default button (such as
OK or Apply) in dialog boxes. In some programs, Snap To may cause the
pointer to automatically move to the center of the dialog box rather than to
the default button.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Wes, I do not have this selection. In the pointers tab, I have "Scheme" -
Windows default.
"Customize" for kind of pointer.
and a check box "Enable pointer shadow"
That's all the choices.
I am using Logitech mouse and driver.

Charles,

Maybe Logitech sets up their own Mouse Properties.

Here's what it's supposed to look like...

I have a Microsoft PS/2 compatible mouse with the generic drivers.

Hello Charles
Apologies for butting in - just to confirm.
I have Logitech mouse - in my Mouse Props, under Pointer Options, the check
box is marked 'Snap to' as Wes mentions. See if you have this box
somewhere else in the Properties.
I unchecked that box, and that's how I got rid of the similar prob you
have.
