I am using an XPPro PC at work. The mouse frequently puses and play a few
notes as the cursor moves about the screen. It is very slow and irritating,
and nobdy knows why it behaves like that, or how to fix it. Any help
gratefully received.

If this is a personal computer being used in the workplace, then
download and install botn an anti-adware and an anti-spyware app
and run them. But if this is a computer that is maintained by the
workplace, then the problem should be resolved by its IT staff.

Hi roma cox,

If it is an optical mouse plugged into a USB port, then the "few notes" that
you are hearing are more than likely WINXP's "device disconnect" and "device
connect" sounds. It may be that the wire is broken where it enters into the
mouse. Have you tried other mouses with that computer to see if they behave
the same? If other mouses don't frequently pause and play a few notes, then
the problem must lie with the mouse that is currently connected to that
computer. You (or someone) could try taking the mouse apart, increasing the
amount of wire that stays within the case, then put the mouse back
together........OR.......get a new mouse.
