Mouse lock up in Windows XP (Home)

I have this mouse lock up problem.
My pointer will lock up momentarily for 5 seconds
and then free up. This happens 2 times while writing this.
Can anyone give a solution to this problem?

You might want to pay close attention to what is actually running. I have
a win98 machine next to me that was doing this, probably as the result of
various bits of spyware and a backdoor trojan. It's much better now without
those things.

I'd suggest that you download and run SpyBot from http://security.kolla.de/
and see what it finds. Be sure to update to the latest definition files.

You can also use msconfig (start, run, msconfig) and go to the Startup tab,
and shut off whatever you don't think is absolutely necessary to see where
the performance is going.
