Mouse is jumpy

I have recently been having this annoying problem, my mouse will start
jerking all over the screen, at random, then it will stop.
How can I strop this?

Cordless? If so, replaced the batteries? Hit the connect button on the
receiver and under the mouse to resync them? Anyone else around using a
cordless mouse?
 
Describe jerking. Do you mean it jumps all on its own or is erratic when you
try to move the cursor?

What happens if you push down on the corded mouse to keep its position
fixed and then flex the cord around? Maybe you have a broken wire or
bad connection from the cord to the mouse's circuit board. I heard some
Microsoft mice are like this.

Have you tried a different mouse? They are pretty cheap (starting at
$5.99 w/free shipping at newegg.com) and you might have some friends or
coworkers with a spare collecting dust in a drawer.
