Mouse is hanging up

Running Windows XP, IE6.
My mouse is hanging up. When I go to move it, more times than not the cursor
stays put. Sometimes have to shut down at the tower to get out of it.
Also when on a web page, the page scrolls on it's own. I've done virus scan
here, and on line....they all show that the pc is free of any infection.
Also did a trojan scan, and nothing was found.
I've cleaned the mouse, switched the mouse to a different one, changed the
mouse pad, nothing makes a difference. Would anyone here by chance have an
idea how I can fix this. I thank you in advance for any help you can give
me.

try these
don't use internet explorer as the browser hijackers are
coded for it. wild tangent is spyware.

spybot: safer-networking.org ,,,,,,,,ad-aware:
lavasoftusa.com ,,,,,, safe to remove spyware with.and
possibly a mouse recking program joke.

don't "click on install this to run" when you visit a web
site and you won't get browser hijackers

mozilla.org for better browser 'firefox' .

Thank you. I do run Spybot and Ad-aware. Everything else, I better check
into. But is that a possibility why my mouse acts so crazy?

Had the same problem with my grandson mouse on a Gateway Computer. It would
give a "bing/bong" sound each time it froze. Sometimes it would return, but
sometimes we would have to reboot. It was not even possible to do a
ctrl-alt-del & we would do turn off power. He was running an optical mouse.
I gave him my backup wheel mouse to use. When we started with the wheel
mouse
the software found a "different mouse" & it used a different driver. It
seemed to
work for awhile. We then went back to the optical mouse & it went back to
the other driver. We went back to Gateway & got a new optical mouse.
It still happens but not as much. He adds new games to his computer &
uninstalls other games. If I had to guess on his computer something is
running in background taking the processor time or it is waiting for a
completion of an IRQ. I spoke to Gateway service & they told me to
download the latest mouse drive but we already had it. I also went into
Google & searched on "mouse freezes". From all the responses to
"mouse freezes" you will see that you are not alone. I wish you luck.

Thank you very much for all this info. I am on my way to do a Google search
right now. Again, thank you.
