Mouse interfering with game

I'm trying to play a game (Black and White) but every time the game boots up, my mouse pointer doesn't disappear with the appearance of the game video. I can also see parts of the desktop and taskbar flashing through the game display. When I click, I get booted to the desktop as if I am clicking on something on the desktop. How can I get the mouse to switch-over to the game's mouse pointer and get the desktop to stop interfering with my game? Thanks!

TRY ALT+TAB LOL

AND CLOSE ALL OPEN PROGRAMS LIKE JUNO OR FLASHING
INTERNET EXPLORER WINDOWS

Black and White has some horrible video problems. I installed the
first release of the game when it came out and was greatly
disappointed at its ability to display things correctly. The perennial
problem for me was as soon as you entered the temple building (or
whatever it was called) the video went to hell.

Once you start playing the game you'll probably come to the conclusion
that the AI idea is great, but that it is implemented poorly and that
game play is VERY repetitious when it comes to acquiring resources.

Hope you solve your particular video problems.

Update your video drivers. This helped for me.

I've updated my video card drivers and my motherboard
drivers. I've also downloaded and installed the most
recent patch for the game. I've tried running it with all
of my background applications terminated. When I use
Alt+Tab and then try to switch back to the game, it won't
restore and instead flashes quickly between the game and
my desktop and only stops when I Alt+Tab again and have
to terminate the game process in the Task Manager. I've
even downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my
mouse... does anybody have any other ideas of things I
could try?

Do you have the latest DirectX drivers installed? I don't know if that
will help, but worth a shot.

As I mentioned above, B&W's interaction with video card drivers is
less than stellar. My guess is that the prog was rushed to market.
Though perhaps you might check the game's web site for patches.
