We have two laptop users who once a month have a problem
with Excel in that when they open excel and click on a
cell it won't release and drags accros the screen. You
have to close the application form the the task bar or
task manager and restrat the computer before you can use
excel again.

I've seen that a couple of people have had this problem,
but no one has yet posted an answer. Has anybody got an
idea. I've checked the trackpad, looked for stuck keys,
disable advanced mouse features, excel is not running in
extended mode (EXT). Got all the updates(sp-3)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Niels

I am also looking for a solution to this. This is the
second time that I have had this problem. The last time
turning off the EXT (extended function) worked, but I am
currently not working in extended function and have
restarted three times and Excel works for a while and then
all I can do is highlight cells.

I am also on a laptop, any help out there?

On desktops this normally relates to a mouse driver issue. This is now
becoming regular on laptops. Try reloading the drivers and see if that
works

Let us know if it does

Hi

Thanks for your contributions

The laptops are toshiba's (2). It's happening about once a
month. I have disabled the trackpad and the 'J' point and
plugged in an external mouse (only on one of them). The
trackpads have scroll features on them and i was wondering
if this caused the problem.

Teresa - what laptop do you have?

Nick - I saw that on microsoft and checked the drivers,
and checked to see if there was any dirt under the
buttons, if there was it would be doing something similar
in all applications.

I'll keep you posted as best i can.

I am getting same problem on HP Compaq Evo N610c laptop.
It does have trackpad and I am using external Microsoft
mouse, and the sheet I opened was on a Sharepoint web
page.

I have also the same problem on my Dell Laptop(Running on Excel 2000)! On my
Toshiba Laptop too(Running Office 2003).Annoying!!!!
Microsoft People HELP!!!
I tried the option "Detect and Repair ..." in the Help Menu; it didn't work

I have the same problem and it seems to only have started when I downloaded
the MS Office patch that was recently offered. I reinstalled my mouse
drivers but that did not work. I think it's a Microsoft bug.

To make matters worse, I have to use Excel for a stats class. I don't have
time to keep restarting the machine during finals.
