Just purchased a new computer( 4 weeks ago) with Windows Vista on it. When
computer shuts down itself after not being used for a while when you try to
use computer again mouse has frozen. Only way to get it working again is to
switch computer off at the mains and start from beginning. Never had this
problems with previous computer that had XP on it. Is this a problem that can
be rectified or would it appear to be a warranty issue?

Is it a USB mouse?

if so, I suggest you go to device mamager and check the USB has not got the
'let windows switch off this hub to save power' box checked.

This is a USB mouse but unfortunatley I have just gone into device manager
and this box is not ticked .

I bought new Dell inspiron 1525, if the laptop goes to standby mode, If I try to use it touch pad is not working. I need to restart the laptop to make it work. Some times after reboot also it wont work. I need to restart 2-3 times to make it work. I could not figure out whether it is laptop hardware issue or windows vista issue.
Thanks

Have you had any help with this issue. I have had the SAME exact problem. I
bought my computer in September (Inspiron 1525) and have contacted Dell many
many times about this. I have basically done everything with them and the
problem is still not fixed, but they will not give me a new computer or
refund. I have updated everything a million times, had the motherboard,
touchpad and adapter replaced, had them connect to my computer remotely
several times, spent $90 bucks buying an external hard drive to back up my
files to restore my computer to factory conditions.....I have spent countless
hours trying to fix it. NOTHING will work. I can't decide if it's actually
a problem with Vista or the computer. I'm starting to think it's Vista but
Dell wont' tell me that. I had XP on another laptop before and had NO
problems. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what's wrong. Have they
helped you or did you figure out a solution?????
HELP ME please :)

Probably no help at all, but I returned for credit a Dell Inspiron 1525
in which the touchpad completely refused to function. The in-store gurus
gave me some flack, but couldn't restore the functionality either. Their
theory was that the touchpad sensors had come "unglued" from the bottom
of the touchpad area.

Yeah, well there must be something wrong with it. It hasn't quit working
completely, but it's a pain. I don't know what to do at this point. They
will not take it back or refund me. I'm stuck

Before I got exasperated enough to take it back (and get a new HP
laptop) I bought a little USB mouse. It works extremely well and comes
in a pouch for storage. The cord winds up into a little circular hub
too. I'd permanently turn off the touchpad and use an external USB mouse.
