For several weeks now my mouse has been intermittently
working then freezing in place meaning it does not
respond to movement or clicking the right or left
button. After a few seconds it starts responding again,
generally after I curse at it. I thought it was just an
old mouse and replaced it, but the symptoms persist with
the new one as well. I then tried looking for viruses
that might cause the problem. The first virus checker
(Symantec) found the KLEZ virus and removed it, but the
problem continues and several other virus checkers have
come up clean. Any ideas?

This problem was encountered in NT Workstation 4.0 and NT
Server 4.0, resulting in Knowledge Base Article - 159060.

I am now experiencing the problem with Intellimouse and
Windows 2003 Standard Server.

I've applied all Windows updates and scanned for viruses.
I have to shutdown my server to regain control of my mouse.

No. the original mouse was not a USB connection, the new
one is, but the results are the same no matter which one
I'm using - works for a little while -freezes up - then
works again. CPU usage is typically 90 - 95% idle and
RAM usage does not seem out of line.
