Hello:

Anybody out there know what would cause the mouse to
freeze and then the computer locks up. The only way to
unlock the computer is to shut it down. Control, Alt,
Delete will not work. We are running Microsoft XP on a
Sony Vaio. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

First thing I would suspect is the power supply. Branded
systems often use cheap ones. Voltage variances cause
crashes like that. Sony may use a proprietary one, so
you're SOL there if that's the case.

Also, the RAM could be flaky.

I would seriously look into the quality of your house's AC
power. If you have voltage fluctuations, your PC can lock
up. A surge protector will not prevent this; only
damaging surges are protected.

Look into a UPS (uninterruptable power supply...it has a
battery). They regulate the power by adjusting for
voltage dips, ensuring your pc gets the power it needs
consistently. In most cases, pc's lock a lot less when
you have one.
