My Presario laptop with a touch screen mouse worked fine
when new and the system came witn Windows ME. I upgraded
to XP and did a clean install and reformat of the HD.
The mouse area has volume and scroll buttons that don't
work. If I point to a link while reading a page - it
responds as if I clicked the left mouse button. Compaq
sent the specfied drivers and there were the same as I
was using. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Please get the input (touchpad) drivers from Compaq website for your
specific laptop.
Once you have installed them and rebooted, you can go into MOUSE control
panel and disable the click-tap feature for the mouse. This will prevent the
touchpad from emulating a left click when ever you lightly tap on the
touchpad.

You do mention that you got drivers from Compaq, but they were the same as
what you were using? Can you please elaborate on how you know that they were
the "same"?
