Mouse double clicks when I only click once

I see that this topic had come up a few years ago, but no one had
offered a solution that worked.

When I click one time, say for instance when I click on the "Back"
button of my browser, it sometimes, but not always, goes back 2 screens
instead of one. Same thing happens when I close an email or program.
I'd say it happens every 4th time, and happens in all programs...
Excel, Word, Auto-Cad, Adobe, you name it.

If I'm especially careful to click real fast, I can usually avoid this
problem. When I explain this problem to others, including local geeks,
they usually think it's just me until they experience the same thing
themselves.

I've tried 3 different mice and have messed with the click speed
settings in the mouse software, all to no avail.

I've got a new computer running XP Pro. We got 2 other identical
office computers at the same time and neither have this problem.

Any ideas????

I've not only tried this with 3 different USB mice, I have reinstalled
the mouse drivers 3 times.

I get the feeling I'm screwed and I better learn to live with it!

This happen in all the USB ports? Motherboard or add in card? I would
tend to think its an electrical issue and if you can isolate the cause
you may be able to avoid replacing the motherboard.
