I am trying to install win2k on my emachine 533i pc which
came loaded with win98. After formating the drive i could
not load win2k so i had to restore win98 and then win2k
setup proceeds and installs. The mouse works for the first
time after the setup is complete and boots pc for the
first time use. Every thing works properly and then i shut
down the PC and start again. This time the mouse
completely stops working. I tried to unload the mouse
driver which make me resart the pc after that i saw that
the mouse does work. But it i again shutdown and restart
the PC the mouse stops to work.

I need help to fix this problem. Also why does win2k asks
for the disk of orignal OS at the start of setup if the
drive is formated? Since i only have the recovery disk
from emachines the win2k setup does not like that disk and
so i had to restore win98 and then continue with win2k
setup.

There should be nothing special in terms of hardware
requirments for the mouse hardware not to work on my
emachines pc for win2k.

Thanks alot for read through and helping.

1. You purchased a computer that has no Installation CD Rom for the OS? I
did that once, Compaq, and then built my own from there on.

2. You could not "load" W2k? Install? A restore CD or floppy only puts
the system back to where it was installed from the first installation. Whe
you formatted the HD, you may have lost something that w2k was needing for
the restore to work for w2k.

3, Go to the control panel and change the mouse driver (let windows pick
the driver) to generic and reboot. If that works, use it a fews hours or
days and see if there is any problems. If not, get the lastest driver for
the mouse you are using, from their web site, and install it.
