Mouse Disconnects

I have had a MS wireless mouse for the past 18 months or so. During that
time it has worked without problems. Recently it has started to disconnect,
that is the red light on the underside goes out and the mouse doesn't
function. The 'disconnects' seems to be random. Pressing the connect
button on the underside of the mouse reconnects the mouse..

Does anyone know why the mouse has started to disconnect and if there is
anything I can do to prevent this?

If there is a battery powering the mouse, it needs replacing.
Running it for 18 months is pretty good lifespan for a battery.

I should be so lucky! A battery set lasts about one month. It is not a
battery problem.
