I'm using WindowsXP, Access 2002, and Intellipoint with a Microsoft
trackball. With this combination I'm having some real problems getting any
sort of clicking to work in Access, especially when I'm working with queries
in design view. Of course, the thing that makes it very frustrating is its
inconsistency.

When working in the query grid, a click will put the mouse cursor in the
Field, Table or Sort rows, but won't work in the Criteria row. As a result I
have to click in one of the top three rows and then use the keyboard arrows
to move down into the crieria row. After I've done this once, I will be able
to click in the row for a while and then something will happen and I'll lose
the ability again.

I also have real troubles working with the tables in the query design view.
I'll frequently lose the ability to select a table, change its width, or
even move it. When this happens I can pretty consistently get the ability
back by double-clicking the design view's window to maximize it or by
double-clicking in a blank part of the table area of the design view to get
the menu. But both processes are frustrating to have to do repeatedly when
I'm doing lots of work in my queries.

Has anyone heard of this (a search of the MS knowledgebase predictably
turned up empty)? Any fixes available?

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael, try switching to the Windows Classic theme.

If the problems disappear, you have demonstrated that it is an issue with
the screen metrics.

Allen,

Sure enough, that fixed the problem. So what do I do now to get MS to look
at this?

Michael

Yes, you could.

It's something I have seen, and verified with others, but not had the chance
to walk through the specifics to pin down. For example, in the setup where I
saw this, I had reduced the height of the title bar to the minimum permitted
under XP, but noticed that the MDI child windows in Access don't respect
that settings (i.e. give some full-height title bars on the Relationships
window for example).

I have a deadline to meet for this Friday, but if you don't know how to go
about this, feel free to email me next week and I will help you a hand to
get the issue raised. You can figure out my email address from the signature
below.
